Inspiration can come from the most mundane yet curious places. After staring at a roll of paper for years, I suddenly saw it as a log of gyro meat—perfect for celebrating National Gyro Day. While the budget didn’t stretch to include a motor, the piece can still be spun by hand. Every detail was hand-lettered and painted, with the heating elements threaded through cardboard and airbrushed to create a warm, convincing glow. As someone who’s half Greek, this project felt especially close to home.
